- Christopher John Dodd is a liberal senator from the state of Connecticut who briefly was a candidate for the 2008 Democratic Party nomination for the Presidency. He dropped out of the race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses. Chris Dodd seemingly was born to the job, and when he entered the world on May 27, 1944 in Willimantic, Connecticut, the attending physician told his mother he might grow up to be president, as he was born with a caul over his head, a sign of good luck. The son of senator Thomas Dodd , an Irish Catholic, he succeeded the legendary Connecticut politician Abraham Ribicoff in the Senate in 1981 after three terms in the House of Representatives. He serves as the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee in the 110th Congress.
